Relinquishing Fear
Being afraid
seems to be involuntary; something beyond your own control. The
Holy Spirits control can take over everything that does not matter,
while his guidance can direct everything that does, if you so
choose. Fear cannot be controlled by the Holy spirit, but it can
be self-controlled. Fear prevents the Holy Spirit from giving
you his control. The presence of fear shows that you have doubted
God and accepted this as your truth. This removes the Holy Spirit
from his control, and makes you feel personally responsible for
your fears. This is an obvious confusion most people experience.
The Holy Spirit does not foster confusion, but you must choose
to let it got . You would not excuse insane behavior on your part
by saying you could not help it. Why should you condone insane
thinking? There is a confusion here that you would do well to
look at clearly. You may believe that you are responsible for
what you do, but not for what you think. The truth is that you
are responsible for what you think, because it is only at this
level that you can exercise choice. What you do comes from what
you think. You cannot separate yourself from the truth by "giving"
autonomy to behavior. This is controlled by the Holy Spirit automatically
as soon as you place what you think under his guidance. Whenever
you are afraid, it is a sure sign that you have allowed your mind
to fear and have not allowed the Holy Spirit to guide you.
It is surely obvious that no
one wants to find what would utterly defeat him, and when you
elect fear your defeat is certain.Yet
it is also your mind that has the power to deny the existence
of fear, and you will surely do so when you realize exactly what
the journey is about when you choose fear as your guide.Being
unable to love, you would be totally inadequate in love's presence,
for it could not respond at all. Then, you would have to abandon
fear's guidance, for it would be quite apparent that it had not
taught you the response you seek. Your fears will therefore distort
love, and teach you that love really calls forth the responses
your fears teach. Follow its teaching, then, and you will search
for love, but will not recognize it.
It is pointless to believe that controlling
the outcome of misthought can result in healing. When you are
fearful, you have chosen wrongly. That is why you feel responsible
for it. You must change your mind, not your behavior, and this
is a matter of willingness. You do not need guidance except at
the mind level. Healing belongs only at the level where change
is possible. Change does not mean anything at the symptom level,
where it cannot work. The correction of fear is your responsibility.
When you ask for release from fear, you are implying that it is
not. You should ask, instead, for help in the conditions that
have brought the fear about. These conditions always entail a
willingness to be separate [apart from God]. At that level you
can help it. You are much too tolerant of mind wandering. Fear
is always a sign of strain, arising whenever what you want conflicts
with what you do . Whenever there is fear, it is because you have
not made up your mind. Your mind is therefore split, and your
behavior inevitably becomes erratic. It is possible to reach a
state in which you bring your mind under Holy Spirits guidance
without conscious effort, but this implies a willingness that
you have not developed as yet. The Holy Spirit cannot ask more
than you are willing to do. Your strength to do comes from your
undivided decision.
“I delight
to do your will, o my God, and your law is within my heart.”
(Psalm 40: 8)
“Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God,
of my salvation."
(Psalm 25: 5)
All real pleasure comes from doing God's
Will. There is no strain in doing God's Will as soon as you recognize
that it is also your own. The lesson here is quite simple, but
particularly apt to be overlooked. I will therefore repeat it,
urging you to listen. Only your mind can produce fear. It does
so whenever it is conflicted in what it wants, producing inevitable
strain because wanting and doing are discordant. This can be corrected
only by accepting a unified goal.
Undoing
Sin
The first corrective step in undoing sin
is to know first that the conflict is an expression of fear. Say
to yourself that you must somehow have chosen not to love, or
the fear could not have arisen. Then the whole process of correction
becomes nothing more than a series of pragmatic steps in the larger
process of accepting Salvation as the remedy. These steps may
be summarized in this way:
Know first that this
is fear.
Fear arises from lack of love.
The only remedy for lack of love is perfect love.
Perfect love is Salvation
Forgiveness, or the expression of salvation,
is always a sign of our love for the Father. It is obvious, then,
that when you are afraid, you have placed yourself in a position
where you need Salvation. You have become fearful, having chosen
without love. This is precisely the situation for which Salvation
was offered by God. As long as you recognize only the need for
the remedy, you will remain fearful. However, as soon as you accept
the remedy, you have abolished the fear. This is how true healing
occurs. Everyone experiences fear. Yet it would take very little
right thinking to realize why fear occurs. Few appreciate the
real power of the mind, and no one remains fully aware of it all
the time. However, if you hope to spare yourself from fear there
are some things you must realize, and realize fully. The mind
is very powerful, and never loses its creative force. It never
sleeps. It is hard to recognize that thought and belief combine
into a power surge that can literally move mountains. It appears
at first glance that to believe such power about yourself is arrogant,
but that is not the real reason you do not believe it. You prefer
to believe that your thoughts cannot exert real influence because
you are actually afraid of them. This may put to rest awareness
of the guilt, but at the cost of seeing the mind as powerless.
There are no idle thoughts.
Judgment Thoughts
"But
I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who
hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat
you. "Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other
also; and whoever takes away your coat, do not withhold your shirt
from him either. "Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever
takes away what is yours, do not demand it back."Treat others
the same way you want them to treat you."
(Luke 6:27-31)
This above quote can be applied
easily if your minds incessant wandering and judging came to a
rest. If you seem to experience anything other than peace then
you have been interpreting your brothers through fear, thereby
deluding yourself into believing your interpretations are real.
Please read what Jesus teaches us in the next quote.
"Why do you look at the speck that
is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in
your own eye? "Or how can you say to your brother, `Brother,
let me take out the speck that is in your eye,' when you yourself
do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first
take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly
to take out the speck that is in your brother's eye”
(Luke 6: 41-42)
Your constant judgments of your brothers
do not follow any type of reason. But because the Holy Spirit
only sees a call for love or love, his interpretation is the correct
judgment. And because it is the Holy Spirit's judgment it requires
no effort at all on your part. Your loving thoughts are true.
Everything else is an appeal for healing and help, regardless
of the form it takes. Can anyone be justified in responding with
anger to a brother's plea for help? No response can be appropriate
except the willingness to give it to him, for this and only this
is what your brother is asking for. Offer him anything else, and
you are assuming the right to judge him by interpreting it as
you see fit. Perhaps the danger of this to your own mind is not
yet fully apparent. If you believe that an appeal for help is
something else you will react to something else.
"A blind man cannot guide
a blind man, can he? Will they not both fall into a pit?"
(Luke 6: 39,40)
A pupil is not above his teacher; but everyone,
after he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher. When
you fully allow the Holy Spirit to teach you how to see clearly,
you will only see Gods son as the love that he his. There is nothing
to prevent you from recognizing all calls for help as exactly
what they are except your own imagined need to judge. It is this
need that closes the door that Christ has opened. It is only this
that makes you willing to engage in endless "battles"
with your creator. It is surely good advice to tell you not to
judge what you do not understand. No one with a personal investment
is a reliable witness, for truth to him has become what he wants
it to be. If you are unwilling to see an appeal for help as what
it is, it is because you are unwilling to give help and to receive
it. To fail to recognize a call for help is to refuse help. Only
by answering his appeal can you be helped. Deny him your help
and you will not recognize God's Answer to you. The Holy Spirit
does not need your help in interpreting motivation, but you do
need His. Allow the Holy Spirit to enter your mind and remember
only love.
Love
your Brother
"A new
commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as
I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all
men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for
one another." (John 13: 34)
Jesus was teaching us that only appreciation
is an appropriate response to your brother. Be grateful to your
brother for both his loving thoughts and his appeals for help,
for both are capable of bringing love into your Heart. How simple,
then, is God's plan for salvation. Hear your brothers call for
Gods help, and you will recognize your own need for the Father.
Every appeal you answer in the Name of Christ brings the remembrance
of your Father closer to your mind.
"Blessed are those who
hear the word of God and keep it."
(Luke9: 28)
By hearing the word of God and applying
the Holy Spirit' interpretation of the reactions of others more
and more consistently, you will gain an increasing awareness that
His vision is appropriate . For to recognize fear is not enough
to escape from it, although the recognition is necessary to demonstrate
the need for escape. The Holy Spirit must still translate the
fear into Gods love. If you were left with the fear, once you
had recognized it, you would have taken a step away from God,
not towards Him. It has been repeatedly emphasized the need to
recognize fear and face it without disguise as a crucial step
in the undoing of the Fear of God. Consider how well the Holy
Spirit's interpretation of the motives of others will serve you
then. Having taught you to accept only loving thoughts in others
and to regard everything else as an appeal for help, He has taught
you that fear itself is an appeal for help. A son of God who believes
his fear to be real is asking for help. Would you not see your
own fearful thoughts as a call for love?
Together As One
For I am persuaded,
that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities,
nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height,
nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us
from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(Romans 8: 38-39)
"What therefore
God has joined together, let no man separate."
(Mark 10: 9)
What is one cannot be perceived as separate,
and the denial of the separation is the return of Love. At the
altar of God, the holy awareness of God's Son becomes so enlightened
that light streams into it, and the Spirit of God's Son shines
in the Spirit of the Father and becomes one with it. Very gently
does God shine upon Himself, loving the extension of Himself that
is His Son. The world has no purpose as it blends into the purpose
of God. For the real world has slipped quietly into Heaven, where
everything eternal in it has always been. There the redeemer and
the redeemed join in perfect love of God and of each other. Heaven
is your home, and being in God it must also be in you.
God's
Altar
Yet Christ has placed your Salvation on
the altar for you. Bring your fears of the world to this altar,
for it is the altar to God. There you will see your vision changed,
and there you will learn to see truly. From this place, where
God and His Son dwell in peace and where you are welcome, you
will look out in peace and behold the world truly. Yet to find
the place, you must relinquish your investment in the world as
you see it, allowing the Holy Spirit to extend the forgiven world
to you from the altar of God.
Seeking and Finding
"When the unclean spirit
goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places seeking
rest, and not finding any, it says, `I will return to my house
from which I came.'"
(Luke 11: 24)
Your home seems lost and far away at times,
but as you let go of all value and idols of the world, you began
to see your home is within, it has always been very near. God
is within as is Christ. As you seek your home within and stay
aware of Gods love for his Son, all fears will slip away. First
you must be honest about your doubts and fears. Fears are certain
that love is dangerous, and this is always its central teaching.
It never puts it this way; on the contrary, everyone who believes
that by choosing idols in the world will give you salvation, they
seem to be intensely engaged in the search for love- but they
are seeking outside of themselves. Yet through your fears you
are encouraged to search for love very actively, under one condition;
do not find it. Its dictates, then, can be summed up
simply as: "Seek and do not find." You pursue your goals
with extreme firmness, and its judgment, though severely impaired,
is completely consistent. Your long search as it undertakes is
therefore bound to be crushed. And since it also teaches that
it is your identification, its guidance leads you to a journey
which must end in perceived self-defeat. For through your fears
you cannot love, and your frantic search for love will guide you
to a wasted land, and you will not find. But this search will
lead you home, because God wills it so. Seek not outside of yourself
with false idols. Seek first the kingdom within and as Jesus promised,
all thing will be added unto you.
God
Wills His Son to be Happy
God's will for you is perfect
happiness and this is your inheiritance. Why should you choose
to go against His Will? The part that He has saved for you to
take in working out His plan is given you that you might be restored
to what He wills. This part is as essential to His plan as to
your happiness. Your joy must be complete to let His plan be understood
by those to whom He sends you. They will see the answer to their
prayers in your shining face, and hear God calling to them in
your happy laugh.
You are indeed essential to God's plan. Without your joy, His
joy is incomplete. Without your smile, the world cannot be saved.
While you are sad, the light that God Himself appointed as the
means to save the world is dim and lusterless, and no one laughs
because all laughter can but echo yours.
You are indeed essential to God's plan. Just as your light increases
every light that shines in Heaven, so your joy on earth calls
to all minds to let their sorrows go, and take their place beside
you in God's plan. God's messengers are joyous, and their joy
heals sorrow and despair. They are the proof that God wills perfect
happiness for all who will accept their Father's gifts as theirs.
Forgiveness
Forgiveness is for all who believe in this
temporal world, it is for eyes that cannot see. Opening the eyes
of the blind is the Holy Spirit's mission, for He knows you have
not lost your vision, but merely forgotten how to see. He would
awaken you from your sleep of forgetting to the remembering of
God. Christ's eyes are open, and He will look upon whatever you
see with love if you accept His vision as your own. The Holy Spirit
keeps the vision of Christ for every Son of God who sleeps. In
His sight the Son of God is perfect, and He longs to share His
vision with you. Through Him your Father calls His Son to remember.
The awakening of His Son begins with his investment in the world
that is forgiven, and by this he will learn to re-invest
in himself. For love is one with the Father and the Son, and the
Holy Spirit blesses the forgiven world in Their Name. When you
have seen this world, the rememberence of God's Love is inevitable.
He is waiting to be seen, for He has never lost sight of you.
And knowing this, He would give you what is yours. In perfect
peace Jesus waits for you at His Father's altar, holding out the
Father's Love to you in the quiet light of the Holy Spirit's blessing.
For the Holy Spirit will lead everyone home to his Father, where
Christ waits in innocence as he was created. Every child of God
is one in Christ, for his being is in Christ as Christ's is in
God. Christ's Love for you is His Love for His Father, which He
knows because He knows His Father's Love for Him. When the Holy
Spirit has at last led you to Christ at the altar, and to His
Father, fears fuses into love because perception has become so
holy that its transfer to holiness is merely its natural extension.
Love transfers to love without any interference, for the two are
one.
